My Art Experience at Bank Street

Edith Gwathmey's art course has not only changed how I think about the role of art in schools, but also the role of art in my life. I am a lover of many different art forms, particularly painting, collage making, piano, acting, and poetry. Throughout various levels of my schooling, I have had ample opportunities to study and integrate most of these in one way or another. The painting and collage making were always more personal creative outlets that I enjoyed, but lacked the confidence to pursue in any way other than an occasional hobby.

The various classroom explorations, slide show examples of physical art classroom activities, and poignant readings have all been so influential in expanding my views of how physical art can be. Through the regular practice of a variety of art forms, I have gained a lot of confidence in my abilities to produce appealing art I can be proud of. Having a three-year-old daughter has additionally been an excellent excuse to practice teaching the skills I’ve learned in the classroom. This art class has also given me so many opportunities to inspire and open my daughter’s eyes to new experiences and her own talents. In reference to my future teaching experiences, This class has shown me how to break down projects and create motivations for various ages, so that they can do their best level of work.

This blog will showcase the variety of art explorations throughout the semester I had to opportunity to participate in, my personal reflections, as well as the craft assignments of my peers.
